Update on Elder Brent Wadsworth in Africa

Brent is doing well on his mission.  It is the hardest thing he has done in his life, but we are so glad he is sticking with it and working his hardest and trying to do his best.  He has met wonderful people, shared the gospel, experienced failures and successes, and come to know the Lord like never before.
Here are some snippets from his letters:

                                                               picking snails-which he ate

"It's pretty sweet here though I'm learning so much and my testimony grows every day. I love helping people come closer to Christ and I know that the closer we get to Christ the less time it takes for him to send his blessings."

"Boy, the work isn't easy but I'm learning so much. But anyone can learn the same things. Maybe not all of them but most of the lessons can be learned from the Book of Mormon and it really is my number 1 source of strength and comfort. All I ask is that anyone who is going through a hard time to not underestimate the power and influence the book of Mormon has. Read it, and your days, weeks, and months will improve. I love you all so much so have a great week!"

"The work is so great and I am grateful to be a part of is. Humility is so important. Not just to men but to God. If we are willing to submit ourselves to the will of the Lord he will help us grow in ways we thought were not possible. Humility is the heat we apply to ourselves in order for the Lord to forge and refine us into something greater than we are. "

"This week I have been praying a lot for strength. I have learned that the mission is really about the missionaries being close enough to the Lord for him to work through us. And coming close to him can only come about through humility, which brings obedience. The lesson can be learned so much in the book of Mormon. When the people are humble and remember their god they are blessed but when they don't then they are the means of their own destruction. I know the Lord is always waiting with his hand outstretched, but we must reach for it in order for him to help us. Nothing in the gospel or on the earth can or should be obtained with no effort on our part. That is why we are here. I love the Lord so much and I hope and pray for his guidance as I do a job that I am not capable of doing on my own."

"The gospel really does answer the questions of the soul though. I've seen that this week more than ever, not just for non-members but for members too. There is always more to learn. I love seeing people get the answers to the life questions that they have, and I love seeing the happiness in the lives of those who have the answers already and act on them. Heavenly Father has a plan for all of us, and it is not limited do the rudiments of the plan of salvation. His plan for us is personal and fulfilling. It will stretch us and make us grow because that is what it takes for us to be happy. The way is not easy, but it is rewarding. "

"The work is sweet though. I'm learning so much and I'm starting to see the major difference that it makes in peoples lives for the better. The gospel blesses us so much and I am so glad that I have the chance to share it with so many people who need it. The atonement of Jesus Christ is central to the plan of happiness, and I know that through it we can all be happy. Improvement is part of the plan. And we improve my sincerely repenting and repairing mistakes that we have made, and continue to make. That is why the atonement is important because it is our chance to improve and became better people while still being able to overcome mistakes. I love this gospel so much because it is divine in every way."

"Everything about the gospel is designed to help people with any problem they have. I also know that prayers are answered. I know that as sure as I am alive that Jesus Christ is my savior and redeemer. And this brings more comfort to me than anything else I can think of. The mission is hard, and the only way to do it is to do it for one who has done more for me than I can can comprehend. I love you all very much and I miss you, but your letters bring a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart."
